Bedbug - Happiest of Hours
This new band from Austin, Texas is a very cool rendition of Seam and Pavement and what they were all about earlier on in their careers. Bedbug is a three-piece band that writes very catchy and intelligent pop that rings out with glorious beauty and heavenly sunshine. Maybe that’s a bit far but you get the point; geek rock that means the world to the musicians. The music is actually very simple with a guitar and bass and drums and lazy vocals not that much different than that of Seam. You will probably have never heard of Pot Valiant (I think they were on a Dutch East Trading label and I found it in a delete bin) but Bedbug sounds a lot like them. Very slow but still interesting enough to hold your keen attention. I listened to the album over and over and never tired of it. It’s really that good. Track it down if you can. Its on Two Sheds (apparently they have changed their name (label) to Tight Spot Records now. Ask for it at your local independent record store.
