On their third proper album Ben Folds returns a more mature persona on an album named after a supposed fictional character. The band used the name on fake IDs when they were younger but found out later that this person actually existed. Anyway, about the music. Incorporated in many of the songs is lush string arrangements as well as Tom Maxwell and Ken Mosher from Squirrel Nut Zippers on sax. On first listen fans won't see the pop sensibilities the band left on their last album but almost an adult contemporary feel to it. After repeated listens, the songs won't leave your head. "Son, your fuckin' high" Army. ) It was really sad that Ben Folds Five left with this as their last album.
