Beta Band has been one of those hype machines that it’s hard to find a bad bit of press about them. The fact of the matter is, they don’t do wrong. This is their third album (if you include The 3 EP’s) and they haven’t shown any sign of weakness yet. When the Beta Band first came out with the 3 EP’s compilation I just thought of them as a novelty act that most likely wouldn’t stand the test of time. But now, after they have released two very solid and impressive follow-up albums, they have proved themselves as a very worthy band: worthy of all the great press that comes their way. On Hot Shots II, the Beta Band get down to business and concentrate on making proper songs as opposed to their collage of sounds and beats on their self-titled album. In actual fact, Beta Band cut back on the samples ad sounds on Hot Shots. They resort to a more minimalistic structure that really works in their favor. Hot Shots II is one of those albums that you just can’t get enough of. Stephen Mason’s voice has become even more hypnotic in his delivery and the songs are so creative and original.
