Bodies of Water is a project that sometimes gets to a swelling membership of 11. It seems as though some restraint is required though. Their debut album, Ears Will Pop and Eyes Will Blink tends to be embellished with a little too much in the way of contribution. You can hear this on the opening track, "Our Friends Appear Like The Dawn". It is like a choir singing the entire song. That is more or less the mandate for the rest of the album. It's too bad because on the second track, "These Are The Eyes" there is a male voice that creeps to the front and I would compare it to David Bowie. It's wonderful! It just doesn't carry on long enough. Anyway, that's the best song out of the lucky 13. And it is available over there on the side as a free download. Check it out. "It Moves" sounds like a religious chant.
The group is basically the vision of married couple David and Meredith Metcalf. I think this is a group that I will check into their sophomore album. I found Ears and Eyes a little too much.

I really love this album. It is right over the top but where else should rock music be headed? If you love group singing as done by The Mamas and The Papas, Spanky and Our Gang etc and would like to hear that modernized with a Gospel lean to it and a dash of Abba... this might be the album for you. Their enthusiasim just leaps off the disc. As someone said 'They make Arcade Fire sound like Mazzy Star'.
