Bill Morrissey has been taking it easy as of late. Well, easy in the aspect of songwriting. His last album to come out was an album of Mississippi John Hurt songs that Bill stated were a big influence on him. Mr. Morrissey is not a man who is out to change the world with his music; he is more interested in playing music that means a lot to him and he hopes that people will enjoy what he has to offer. It really isn’t that hard to listen to what Bill has to sing about with his scratchy voice and his very introspective lyrics that build up his brilliant songs. He is able to create a perfect image of his songs characters and describe vividly the stories events. The songs are all very sparse and bare but need to be in order to fully realize Bill Morrissey’s very unique voice. One track “Buddy Bolden’s Blues is an example of the influence that John Hurt had on Bill (Bill covered “Funky Butt which was a Bolden track originally). The album is quiet and very well thought out and I wouldn’t be surprised if at least a couple of these tracks are life experiences for Morrissey.
