Recorded in Poland during the 2005 European tour, in a club, though from the sound of it, it may have been recorded in a room where I would fear castration or forced sodomy. But that is just me, and maybe I’ve revealed too many fears. At any rate, Marduk are all relentless drumming, and vigorous shredding, with the added touch of growling vocals and between song patter delivered with actual phlegmy gurgling.
Yes, they are from Sweden, and yes, they do their best to telegraph their hatred of the Lord with titles like " Slay The Nazarene," "With Satan and Victorious Weapons," and the self-congratulatory "Panzer Division Marduk," a title that must have gone down well in Warsaw among their fans’ parents! Yet for all the much-copied trapping, Marduk are genuinely creepy;
they deliver the goods musically, and drive home their blasphemy with cruel sincerity. This is one band that means it. Behind their corpse paint is an even more sinister expression, I’m sure. Not for the squeamish, but recommended for those who think they believe in Satan; meet the warriors of the wasteland. Available on Amazon as a set with the lovely DVD "Blood, Puke, Salvation."
