The album Samus Octology kicks start with long tranquil cries of whales calling forth the first track of the album, to which we are met with surprisingly heavy, crunchy guitar riffs riding upon waves of melodic and harmonious passages and interludes. Irepress have a definite metallic bite fighting in each song to gain dominance over his melodic counterpart, where these battles take place is determined by the subtle hints in ambience, like raindrops or ocean waves crashing as the song dies down into the next. Though at times chaotic and wild, there’s a predetermined, logical, controlled comfort to it all that allows you to loose yourself for but a moment and trusting where it will take you. If you are a fan of the greats such as Isis and Pelican, I suggest you give this a listen.
