And now for the second great album of 2001... Spoon had me with their new album, Girls Can Tell, and now The Bigger Lovers come my way and it's only March! In the bio they are calling for this album to become a Pop-Rock classic like The Beach Boys - Sunflower or Soft Boys Underwater Moonlight (which by the way has just been remastered and re-issued by Matador). Some very high expectations for a new band to live up to. They actually recorded the album back in 1999 and as of March 13 it will have been finally officially released after a bunch of label issues. This album ends up being worth all the hype. The four piece has a magic that pop-rock hasn't seend in years. The album kicks off with the motoring track "Catch & Release" that takes up only 2 minutes of your limited time. For the next track they slow it down a bit and jump into a Teenage Fanclub / Big Star persona to play "I'm Here". Guitars run rampant all over the album always playing a catchy melody. A fine album that will hopefully gain the recognition it deserves.
