Dreaming Of Eden approached me for a review of their new album, ...And They Will Live Forever. The cover boasts a glorious picture of an angel in a gleaming white over top of a neutral background. Before even listening I'm thinking of Christian rock or even new age but what graces the music is something that should be heard by anyone into melodic hardcore or emo of any level. The band comes by way of Virginia and led by singer/guitarist Mike Longhelt.

These guys don't rely on hooks in order to grab you, instead they opt for just writing solid songs with some great vocals and consistent musicianship. This is what is necessary when a band approaches an already crowded genre. They don't bring any new formula to the table, which some may complain about, but the band is solid. You'll hear this on songs like "Silent Remedy", a song that sounds familiar and yet you've never heard it before. "Today" shows just what they are capable.

Some of the tracks take some time to get into like "Conceal". They aren't overly approachable at first but after a couple listens you should be sold. "Threshold" is slightly heavier but no less accessible.

I found myself a little tired of Mike's voice by the time And They Will Live Forever but that's my only complaint. This might be solved by adding a screamer to offset Mike's singing voice, sort of like they dabble with on "Conceal" - my favorite of the set.

So kudos to Dreaming Of Eden for putting out a solid release, without help from any label, that puts to shame a lot of those on labels like Fearless, Drive-Thru and Victory.
