Ahh, the mighty Frank Black treats us with yet another album with his Catholics. According to Frank's self written tear sheet that came with Dog In The Sand, he and his band have adopted more of a dramatic, classic rock sound. Frank admitted that every morning on their last tour they listened to both Exile on Main Street and Blonde on Blonde as inspiration. They have also looked towards keyboardist, Eric Drew Feldman, to reluctantly provide all the raw piano parts. Yup, I said piano. Don't worry, it sounds great on here. It's well integrated and Frank and his Catholics have kept to the live recording to 2 tracks and finished it in a mere 10 days. Also included for your listening pleasure there is loads of Steel Guitar. After all this is classic rock. Pixies fans may have to look a bit harder to find the old Black Francis here but rest assured Frank is moving in the right direction. Let's hope he keeps ahold of his religion as it seems to be providing him with all the faith he needs.
