I always hate to put a Try if you like for a Dischord band because 9 times out of 10 it’s going to be Fugazi. Don’t get me wrong but the influence of Ian MacKaye and his Dischord label is immense. And it seems like MacKaye has no problem showing this fact off, offering all these bands record deals. Black Eyes are no exception to this case. Their music has the DC style post-rock sound that we have come to know and love. The play noisy rock music that at times incorporates the double vocalist approach. Black Eyes’ songwriting is very impressive as well. This self-titled debut sounds more like a sophomore album with its maturity and group tightness. Sometimes, bands like this can sound disjointed. At times, this is OK but if you do that for an entire album you can sound amateurish. Black Eyes don’t do this at all. Their instrumentation is unique as well. They incorporate 2 drummer/percussionists as well as two bass players finishing off with a guitarist. Everyone shares in vocal duties making this a very dynamic album. If you have made it this far, pick this album up. It is the next step in Fugazi style post-rock.
