I'm not usually one for the experimental electronic thing. At least very often but something compelled me to pick out Mound Magnet out of the pile-o-discs and give it a shot. I was hooked instantly. I wasn't aware that Lithops was the solo project of Mouse On Mars member Jan St. Werner, which explains a lot. I do like Mouse On Mars and I would possibly argue that the music/experiments on Mound Magnet are more accessible than Jan's other project. There is no reason to pull out single tracks because Mound Magnet works as a whole. The nine tracks meld into one another as impressive sound experiments. It's strange that Lithops is able to make such electronic sounds seem so organic. It seems like Mouse On Mars even more ambient, for the most part. If you are interested in acts like Fennesz or Oval, you should definitely track down this Lithops album. I think Jan has succeeded in creating quite the collection of disparate beats (rarely), samples and other sounds.
