Maserati is an interesting project with obvious nods to Pink Floyd but also managing to remain post-rock. Inventions For The New Season is the third album for the Athens, GA band and the first one for drummer Gerhardt Fuchs (!!!, Turing Machine, LCD Soundsystem, The Juan Maclean). The percussion is one thing that keeps Inventions alive. There seems to always be a driving feel to these songs, I would guess that's the reason for the band title.

If you don't hear some of The Wall in the lead track, the epic "Inventions" then you haven't heard the Wall. They get all futuristic with their effects on "This Is a Sight We Had One Day from the High Mountain", a phaser type effect leads us into the song. "Show Me The Season" is another one that seems to hint at a long cruise in said car with maybe a bit of kraut rock thrown into the mix.

There isn't anything new here but if you are a fan of instrumental rock then Maserati might be for you. For a few moments I wished I was driving with the top down ("Synchronicity IV"). But for those with no interest in post-rock, Maserati will have nothing to offer you.
