Luke Temple is as underground as it gets. He has been putting out decent releases for a few years now, most notably his Hold A Match For A Gasoline World album and all on the small Mill Pond label. His new album, Snowbeast, is just a charming as his last, Luke's falsetto leading the way with the lush arrangements following suit. There are very personal songs like "Medicine" that come off more heartfelt than any off of Gasoline World.
The album opens off with "Saturday People" - a semi-quiet pop song that has a twang to it that makes it the most charming song of the set. I love the way this song ends with the percussion leading the way. "Serious" is even quieter with a quirky keyboard accompanying Luke's voice.
It's Temple's whole package that sells him though. His songwriting, his beautiful falsetto (M. Ward-ish), his simple yet brilliant arrangements and composition.
Snowbeast is the sort of album you want to share with people. Not listen to it with people just recommend it and talk about it later. Might not be the right title for this gentle listen but that's Luke's decision.
