As Cities Burn released a couple of EP's before their debut release with an actual label.  The demo versions of their songs were very good, and set a great standard for them in their 'aggressive hardcore' genre.  This album, Son, I Loved You At Your Darkest, was instantly a hit with fans as soon as the first track, 'Thus From My Lips, By Yours, My Sin Is Purged'.  The song immediately bursts into your ears with the screams of greed.  "Well, I've got a will, but I want yours."  You can see how great the potential of this group is as soon as they hit the chorus.  Cody goes into:

"Oh, how sweet the sound.  I know it saves but is it changing a wretch like me? Oh my god, how sweet is that sound?  I was once blind, but now I just look away."

You see just how far the christian roots must go in this band, for them to pull the lyrics into their songs.  One of the songs I think that stands out the most here in this album, is 'The Widow.'  Not only because the song is a slower pace for the band, but because it tells a story that some families deal with all over the world.  The story talks of a father walking out on his kids, and who was never there because of drugs.  And now the mother has to be the father and teach the kids right from wrong.

The single off of this album was the song 'Bloodsucker Part II', which is a great fast paced hardcore song.  'Well it's yours, you can have if it means that much to you.  Don't let me stop you now.'  The video was a good concept, that went well with the song.  A man is taking people and changing them to look in the way of his design.  With the left over parts, he keeps, so in a way, he is becoming the bloodsucker.

The mastered versions of 'Love At Our Throats'(Love Jealous One, Love), '1:27', and 'The Nothing That Kills'(Of Want And Misery:The Nothing That Kills) are included with this brand new full length album.  All the aggression, passion, and hardwork a band could want to put into an album is right here.  As Cities Burn did a great job making this album, and it was well worth the wait.  I recommend this album to anyone who listens to bands such as UnderOath, Maylene And The Sons of Disaster, and Norma Jean
