Providence noise band (is that a cliché by now?) SB rise above the usual din via their humor and their double bass attack. Most of the tracks here clock in at under a minute, though the final, untitled cut springs one fat surprise on you: a 67 minutes plus fadeout, which sounds suspiciously like someone just left a bass next to an amp and came back later. The hum actually gets pretty comforting after awhile, and if you sit through to or skip to the end, there is a nice whammy of a payoff. With these guys you never get the feeling that they take their gore and glee seriously, and are smarter than they want to let on. This makes them sort of like heroes, in a genre where menace can be so seductive bands follow their muse right over to Cartoon Network. Not here. This is a record that rages and rages, and then goes and has a beer.
