Jack Breakfast is a Torontonian who is trying to reach outside of Ontario for more recognition. His sound is a very familiar one (an artist that I just can’t pinpoint and it’s bugging the hell out of me) but unique at the same time. His voice is very quirky and he sings in a very frail voice in a Stephen Malkmus sort of way. While there really isn’t that much to Jack’s songs, you are compelled to listen because of his intrigue and craftiness. This is what singer/songwriters look for in alternative music, or at least should. Breakfast crafts some very fine songs on the understated Rock and Roll Album. He doesn’t hit much on the Rock and Roll thing but he sure knows how to write a catchy little song. He has that potential of going places with his voice but something tells me that he is happy doing what he is doing and doesn’t want to shake things up too much. You have to give credit where it’s due. Jack Breakfast is a great alternative musician.
