Guillermo E. Brown ventures out on his own after drumming for the likes of Matthew Shipp and David S. Ware. Soul At The Hands of the Machine is an adventure unlike others that you have taken. This is a avant garde jazz affair that will appeal to anyone who likes the people that Guillermo has previously played with. There are some electronica elements and sampling that fit into the equation but Guillermo’s drummins is the backbone for what is being built. Brown also incorporates a little Afro Cuban and Hip Hop styles into the mix. The rhythms are what it’s all about though. Brown is a drummer that can teeter on the edge without quite falling down and then bring it back. If the words Avant Garde scare you then back away slowly. Guillermo is not a musician that everyone will appreciate. Skilled jazz musicians, although, will bow to his brilliance.
