The North Mississippi Allstars have done quite a job impressing people with only two releases to their name. Their critically acclaimed debut album garnered them much deserved attention. Where does that leave the band? A band with this much talent doesn’t just curl up and play dead. They are out to prove that they aren’t just a one hit wonder. On 51 Phantom the band proves this and so much more. The songs that North Mississippi Allstars have crafted here are the work of true professionals and it comes as a surprise that these young blues fans have the experience to write such quality material. They are able to do almost every style of blues out there; raunchy, smooth, electric, acoustic, jam, and totally barreling rock tracks. All of the tracks reek with style and the Allstars have no problem pulling off all their different styles. Band frontman Luther Dickinson says “When young white kids play black music, whether it’s Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, or the Beastie Boys, it turns into rock ‘n roll. That’s what rock ‘n roll is. Well let’s add North Mississippi Allstars to that list. The Allstars have really outdone themselves this time.
