Drew Donavanik's Experience. Hold. project is absolutely stunning. I do have to give Music Emissions credit with their Indie Of The Year contest otherwise I would have never had the opportunity to listen to this album. Think of Boards of Canada but more organic. It sounds like laptop music but there is something about Drew's music that transcends the electronics on which it was created.
Airborne For Ages opens up with a track called "Hello" which doesn't quite give you the right impression for what lies ahead. "Hello" ends up being more IDM than the more ambient electronica that comes in the following track, "The Past Is Honest". In fact, it is this track that I fell in love with. This post-rock charm carries on with "It Feels Forced". But some of the best is left to be had closer to the end of the album. I really liked the droning feel of "Wisdom Extraction". It hints at better things to come from Experience. Hold. Even the closing track, "Blessing Stone" leaves you with a lovely taste in your mouth. It's an uplifting track with a very nice acoustic guitar over top of some samples that sounds like rain or a busy street corner. If you enjoy Explosions In The Sky, please, do yourself a favor and listen to Experience. Hold. This is quality stuff.
Last year San Diego's Goddamn Electric Bill amazed me with his electronic project. Experience Hold may just have my vote for "best album you've never heard" for 2007. Don't miss out. Drew is giving it away on his MySpace page as well for a free download.

Seriously, I think I may have a contender for my vote in this contest. If you like Post-Rock stuff like Explosions In The Sky check out drew donavanik's Experience. Hold. project. Good stuff.
