RecommendTo start off with this album shouldn't be just John Prine, it should be John Prine and Friends as every song features a guest female artist doing a duet with John. John must be having a writers block as there is only one original song on here. Not that that's a bad thing as he does a bang up job on all the chosen tracks. Iris Dement seems to be favoured as the Duet partner of choice. Also on In Spite are Connie Smith, Lucinda Williams, Trisha Yearwood, Emmylou Harris and Patty Loveless amongst others. Being a project Mr. Prine has wanted to do for a long time In Spite comes of clean and smooth both in the country vein as well as folk.
