This is my first glimpse of Howard W. Hamiliton’s The Busy Signals project. Although The Busy Signals has had 2 previous releases to Pure Energy it has not crossed paths with me until now. It’s not an immediate thing but over time the Busy Signals can seep into your brain and infect it with their clever loops and charming vocals. From what I have heard, Howard actually sold his car in order to buy his first 8-track and a sampler. He has come a long way with those tools, piecing together some very brilliant songs. He has no problem incorporating the standard drum machine sounds with his own vocals and guests just the same. Pure Energy is basically a reworking of some tracks that were on his previous 2 Sugar Free albums. He has included five new tracks as well as b-sides and other rare material. If his previous albums had half as much inventiveness as these tracks then they are must haves as well. His friend Har Mar Superstar sings on “Friend of a Friend. “The Freeway was from Pretend Hits but its here as a remix by Triangle. There is a very cool hip-hop track with vocals by Phonte called “Autopilot. Pure Energy proves to be an ample introduction to cut and paste feel of The Busy Signals.
