Lester Quitzau is one of those anomalies that are a mystery. He plays blues better than some of the biggest blues musicians out there and he still remains an Alberta only legend. Lester has been playing the blues for many years now and just this year has released one of his best albums yet, So Here We Are. It is an appropriate name considering that no labels have ever (at least that I know of) approached him for a record deal, so he remains in Alberta, playing some of the finest electric blues to ever be played. On So Here We Are, Lester Quitzau is joined by his two friends and fellow musicians Greg Johnston (bass, piano, accordion, clavinet, Rhodes, Hammond, and synth bass) and Lyle Molzan (drums and percussion). His guitar licks are as hot as Gordie Johnson (Big Sugar) on a bad day and his songwriting would impress even the rhythm section known as Double Trouble. Lester rocks out hard (lead track “Rollin’ and Tumblin’) and he has no problem slowing things down (“Broken Heart). He sticks to a tradition electric blues sound but is not at all afraid to let it go now and then. Check out Lester’s website (http://www.lesterq.com) for more information on one of Alberta’s finest hidden treasures. The album states that there is supposed to be an added bonus CD-ROM track of Quitzau and company in the studio but I couldn’t get it working.
