Jose Contreras’ By Divine Right have basically recreated themselves for their third album. When All Hail Discordia came out, Canadians weren’t quite ready for the originality of the group. Nettwerk was quick to scoop them up and rerelease Discordia. They followed up with Bless This Mess, an album that wasn’t near as catchy and instant as Discordia was. Jose looked at his band a rebuilt from ground up and a deal with small Warner affiliate, Linus Entertainment, was secured. Good Morning Beautiful is the result and it is a nice return to form. Contreras is an amazingly original songwriter and is able to translate that well to the right musicians. This is pop music at it’s best. Songs are totally infectious and you want to sing along right away. From the quiet lull of “Sweet Lovin’ to the driving “Hugger of Trees you can’t help but admire this By Divine Right incarnation. If you were let down by Bless This Mess as I was, rediscover one of Canada’s very talented bands. Oh yeah, the track “Back To You was co-written by Tragically Hip’s Gord Downie.
