One Small Step For Landmines is a new band from Tallahassee, FL and even in their infancy have secured a deal with Doghouse affiliate Civil Defense League. CDL is a new label started up by Sparta's Jim Ward and if One Small Step For Landmines is any indication of the talent Jim is taking on then this will be a label to watch. One Small Step For Landmines has a little bit of that Sparta feel but add some youthfulness. Canada's Doughboys pop into my head too upon further listen. Songs like "Anybody Out There" really stand out with some amazing musicianship. Some complicated rhythms with the vocals really leading the way, with maybe a little Jimmy Eat World with more aggression. The youthfulness also comes out in playful tracks like "The New Lloyd Dobler". It may be a little immature with harmonies but it still sounds pretty good. "Don't Go To Hell" is a great track too. A quieter track with just some strumming over a harmonious vocal line that steadily grows into something quite impressive.

One track that ended up getting on my nerves was the ballad "Everything's All Right". It ended up way to repetitive and just wouldn't end. With that being said, it is the only fault of this impressive debut album. Call the emo but I think a power-pop tag would be much more appropriate.

Watch for these guys touring this album in the coming months. I would be willing to wager that their live show will be impressive.
