Cadaver in Drag are a Kentucky power trio with emphasis on the word POWER. The tracks on Raw Child, including and especially the 20+ minute “Walking Through The Gates of Hell,” are monster doses of heavy, occasionally slow and droning psych noise within a loose metal framework. “Gates” is monumental is feel, and for a long jam does not seem too long, nor can you find any places where some trimming might have been in order. It is complete and bruising as is. Sludgy without being numbing, “Fuck The Place” and “Secession 61” electrify the nerves while subtly pummeling you into submission. The band allows themselves enough room to explore chords and notes at will, extending the slow and harsh sections both until it feels right to change it up. And “Raw Child” is one record that feels damn right.

This is another winner for ADR, whose roster is full of bands that play around with genres, and extend them in uncompromising ways. Cadaver in Drag is are as heavy as any of the big time trios that pop into your mind when you read this sentence. But they add their own stamp to the lineup, and have a command of minor chords and the extended jam that is truly glorious.
