Another product of Philly's ever-growing music scene, The Bee Team (formerly Bees and the Birds) are a group of musicians playing simple, effective and generally enjoyable indie pop-rock. No frills, no meandering and no nonsense, it's all by-the-books and joyous on their debut EP.
Three tracks is about the bare minimum for a listener to get a feel for the music, and these three tracks are quite good despite their bare-boned nature. I say 'despite' as per my own tastes. If you're a fan of catchy, upbeat rock and cute male-female vocal trade-offs, you'll love these songs. Of the three, my favorite is the closer "Waiting for a Call", an easily-related-to tale of missing someone and waiting for them to call (if the title didn't tell you that already).
A well-played and enjoyable EP, Bees and the Birds serves as a fair introduction to a band who could make some noise locally. They just dropped their first full-length in August, and I'm tempted to check it out. Hopefully they expand on what they've done here. Bee Team would be for fans of bands like The Shins, Decemberists and other indie-pop groups. Very uplifting music, but it does come at the expense of true creative spirit. You've heard this before, probably done better, but if you dig one band like this odds are you'll dig 'em all.
