Beginning more like a bad new years party, Over The Rhine rings much more clear and definitive throughout the rest of the disc. While the tempo resides somewhere between soft, subtle and silky, many parts of this album are funky and forceful. Not just a voice over instrumentation, this CD is a project that could be again.
Also not just some lyrical bigotry and musical vibe, like Fiona Apple and Joss Stone, Over The Rhine has an undeniable dilemna, soul. Not even Stone or Apple could exemplify the raspy beautification of the diverse genre jazz involved here. Enjoyable and relaxing brass is the solid gold, don't look for anything more definitive. Sure, a play on words nearly, but imagine a beautiful, and bold rhino much like a tragic, traffic accident, surely you think you can look away when its your turn to pass through, yet you seem to stare like a dear in headlights.
