The Punk Goes series continues to grow with their release of Punk Goes Acoustic 2. This is the second Punk Goes Acoustic album to be released. It contains artists such as +44, All-American Rejects, Say Anything, Mayday Parade, and Jack's Mannequin. All of the artists are doing alternate versions of their own songs, which is great because a lot of current bands that try to do old covers.. Well, some just don't turn out as great as they should.
This album is really a great compilation of artists showing off why they are in the music business. theAudition does an amazing job with their acoustic version of 'Don’t Be So Hard'. The acoustic version is quite possibly better then the original version which is featured on their album Controversy Loves Company. The song I was most interested in hearing was the acoustic version of Woe by the band Say Anything. I was interested in hearing how they would have to alter the song to make it as great or better than the original version. Surprisingly, the acoustic version of Woe is as great as the original version.
But, there are the occasional bad songs on this album. Alesana does an acoustic version of Apology, which isn't completely terrible, but includes a little bit of screaming. The screaming kind of throws off the music from an acoustic feel to a regular album track. I have never really been a fan of Alesana, mostly because the lead singers voice is a little too whiny. Then while some songs aren't great, other songs are just plain and unimpressive, such as Night Drive by The All-American Rejects. The song is just plain and boring, which is a lot like some of their other stuff.
Other then the occasional bad or boring track, this compilation is great. There are a variety of great songs by great artists to keep you entertained for the length of the album. If you're a sucker for anything acoustic, I would suggest you hop on the Punk Goes Acoustic series.
