Though some may think of the DFA crew as a strange addition to the Fabriclive series you need to hear this disco styled compilation to understand where their DJing capabilities lie. James Murphy (you may know him as LCD Soundsystem as well) has been a DJ for a number of years, spinning some of his favorite material for the punters in the clubs and
James and Pat stated that "The mix itself will have a little bit of stuff that isn't necessarily what we'd play in a club. But we'd like it to be fun." They've accomplished that with probably the most disco centric Fabriclive comp to date. When you include tracks from Chic and Donald Byrd you can't help but get that feel. I give James and Pat credit for keeping the feeling going, even through tracks like the LCD Soundsystem's "Hippie Priest Bum-out". I think it is the shuffle style beat that Murphy chooses to use to seam all of the tracks together.
You're asking, "But will I like Fabriclive.36?"
If you like standard fare house music you should check this compilation out. If you think you'd like a new take on disco, have a go. If you like James Murphy definitely give it a go. Otherwise, I might recommend the one by Spank Rock, The Glimmers, or even Stanton Warriors over this Fabriclive. It's good but gets a little wearing on the 70+ minute mark.
