After releasing this summer’s EP of acoustic rarities, Two Gallants return with their third full length album, a self-titled record produced on the infamous indie label of Saddle Creek. On Two Gallants, the band’s penchant for loud, anthemic, country twanged rock-n-roll tunes returns with unprecedented aplomb, bringing all elements of their sound to fruition. Along with the band’s notably vivid and rhythmic lyricism, their fusion of melancholic, country blues and boisterous, rock and roll bellows seamlessly plays through all of Two Gallants, ranging from the elegiac acoustics of “Fly Low Carrion Crow” to the relentlessness of the crescendo-filled “The Deader.”
After finding the foundation of their sound on earlier releases, Two Gallants hone their ability to interweave the voices of their dual-vocalists: Adam Stephens (guitar/vocals/harmonica) and Tyson Vogel (drums/vocals), who explore broken slurs and blaring choruses without any apprehension. The result creates passionate, clever, and refreshingly original songs from this very young and energetic band, who have brilliantly created a cohesive—though musically varied—creative, and very expressive nine-track album. Check these guys out; they’re well worth your ear.
