Putumayo has been putting out wonderful world music compilations now for over 15 years, successfully selling their music in niche gift shops all over the world. Tango Around The World is their new Tango influenced collection and instead of focusing on "tango rich" countries the label has scoured the globe in order to bring us tango infused music from all over the world. So with 11 songs, only 4 are from Argentina, the birthplace of tango. The rest range from Senegal, Finland, Brazil, Norway, Greece, Serbia and Portugal. 

Artist Alexis Kalofolia & Thanos Amorginos presents a lovely electronic infused tango on "Gia Ligo", one of the best tracks of the set. I love the upbeat instrumental at the end by Hugo Diaz ("Mi Buenos Aires Querido"). Another of my favorites is the Argentinean Federico Aubel and his track "Pena", simply wonderful.

So you get what you expect, a mix of new and old styles of Tango, one of the most seductive dance and music styles in the world. Putumayo has done it again, making Tango Around The World one of this year's best world music compilations.
