Silverstein's sophomore record with Victory Records.  Silverstein first album left much a to be decided upon.  It left many with a bad taste in their mouths while others found escape in their lyrics.  When Broken Is Easily Fixed had such a raw hardcore feeling to the entire album, but with this coming album Discovering The Waterfront, something got lost in translation.  The lyrics still suffer a bit, the distortion on production has been cleaned up a bit, but the line between good and bad is kind of distorted.  Silverstein carried over some of their hardcore roots in the breakdowns concealed in some of their songs.  The good news is that the band has actually matured as musicians from their debut release.

The album seems to be more put together this time around, the music in this album is a lot more complex, and Silverstein seems to have caught ahold on the concept of breakdowns.  Their attempt at a softer song is decent at most.  Discovering The Waterfront is a nice song indeed, but it's too modern.  There is nothing unique about this song at all, the only thing making it different upon the album is that it's the slower song of the album.  The hardcore song on this album called Defend You is not a very good attempt at all.  Sure, it has everything needed to be hardcore, fast paced and screaming, but the song just isnt that great.

Overall, Silverstein makes a noble attempt at making a good album with their release of Discovering The Waterfront.  Unfortunately, it's not that great of an improvement from their debut album of When Broken Is Easily Fixed.  This album is not exactly recommended, but for fans of emo and post hardcore, this album might be for you.
