Daft Punk. That could be enough of a review to tell you how good this album is, but because it is better then any normal Daft Punk album thus far, it needs more words to describe it.
The task of an Electronic Duo performing songs in a live environment without any real live instruments can end in boring or annoying results ,(sorry Four Tet, Im looking at you), but Thomas and Guy have taken their entire catalog and mashed their classics up into some of the fastest, hardest yet calm music I have heard. They put their soul into this album, and obviously this tour and it shows. I am not a huge "house" or "trance" fan, and to me Daft Punk is light years beyond that type of music, but yet the can still get play in the right clubs to stay relevant to mainstream culture, all while donning masks and robot atire. It maybe a gimick, but luckily for them and us, it goes way beyond that.
I wont try to break down all the tracks, because they contain so many songs from all their previous albums, but those of you who thought "Human after all" was to repetitive amd that "Discovery" was to normal of music for club usage, and that their self titled release was to underproduced, this live album takes all the highlight moments, and expands upon them and makes them harder, better, faster and stronger. The "around the world" and "harder, better, faster, stronger" mix is a banger that makes you want to dance the night away while slapping a hard wall, such a tremendous song. "The Prime Time of your life" mix, is so incredible, it builds and builds and combines so many elements from past songs, that I can hardly listen to any of there normal versions anymore. The live set conclusion mixes some songs that maybe where not given as much credit on their own, and turns it into a jam packed and energetic opus to being human again. I regret I didnt make it out to see this show live, I will be kicking myself for that for the rest of my life, but god those that did, you are lucky, and for those of us that didnt, this album is Daft Punk and if you didnt think they deserved to be considered legends yet, I think this one will change your mind. BUY THIS ALBUM, put it on and have your own private party in the car, trust me, you wont regret it. The best mixtape ever made, period.
