British Sea Power is a band that has really proved themselves with their sophomore album, Open Season. They hope to prove that this just hasn't been a fluke with their third album, Do You Like Rock Music?.

It is really scary to hear how close they come to Arcade Fire territory on "All In It". In fact it appears that British Sea Power was quite entranced with the Canadian group. There is a lot of influence at play here. Thankfully the British group is able to add some diversity to the influence and they come up smelling like roses. Even as soon as the second track, "Lights Out For Darker Skies" they manage to really get the rock engine going. On "No Lucifer" I get a Mercury Rev/Arcade Fire feel but damn if this isn't the best track on Do You Like Rock Music? "Waving Flags" brings it down slightly but still has huge arena feel to it.

'A Trip Out' feels like an old school indie rock song in the vein of Husker Du or The Replacements. Mostly the chunky guitar riff makes me think of this comparison. Vocals are much updated. "Atom" has the feel of a Strokes song. Great, upbeat track with a bouncy feel to it. "Open The Door" feels like a lost La's song.

As a result British Sea Power prove that they can take current influences and make their own sound. The album may not be as diverse as some may like but it is solid and that, in itself, is an accomplishment.
