Joseph Arthur has been a busy man this year. Is he trying to outdo Ryan Adams' last year? Could We Survive is the first in the series of EP's he released in 2008. 6 songs come with this EP starting out with quite an ambitious track called "Rages Of Babylon". It gets quite full by the end of the track. Next up is the beautiful "Morning Cup". This is one of the more personal tracks from Arthur. Not sure how he manages some of the sounds on here, it almost sounds as if it's a sitar in the back. He adds a little more of the lush arrangement to "Shadows Of Lies" with great effect.
On the title track he utilizes his amazing falsetto. This turned out to be my favorite of the 6 songs.
It escapes me why Joseph hasn't received a lot more accolades. He is an amazing songwriter. He may have faltered with his last full-length but I think these EPs are the start of something great for Arthur.
