This Joe Davis CD was quite a pleasant surprise for me. I knew that Joe was the front-man for the Pinehurst Kids but I had know idea that Joe had this inside him. Hope Chest is a great collection of gentle, fairly mellow and personal songs that Joe has had pent up inside him for quite some time now. You can find all the hooks and catchy guitar riffs that are so delightful in the Pinehurst Kids totally apparent in this Joe Davis outing. The lyrics are touching and reminiscent of Elliott Smith’s as well as the amazing delivery. You can really tell that Joe gets very personal on some tracks by both the delivery as well as the arrangement. Some of the tracks gain speed such as the instrumental “Blister that almost sounds like it could be a Pixies track. Joe Davis is indeed a talented musician and this should hold Pinehurst Kids fans until the next album comes out as well as garner a few new fans along the way. Look for a Joe Davis solo tour this year.
