The Cool Kids are a Run DMC for a new generation. Thank god for that. Finally someone is making real hip-hop again. In addition to fellow Chicago Natives Lupe Fiasco and Kanye West there are The Cool Kids. All three have come out with new albums but we have waited until now to see if Mikey and Chuck could match Lupe and Kanye's albums. Let me be the first to say they not only matched how good those albums were but may have made a better one. Track for track The Bake Sale is perfect. It is the true, fun, old school type hip-hop that makes you wanna throw a house party. With self-produced beats that trounce anything else in hip-hop right now they really brought a whole new style with this one. The first track of The Bake Sale is "What Up Man," a track that is not nearly the high point of the album. That being said this track is sick and makes you eager to press the buttons on your stereo so you can hear the next song. Skipping ahead to the third track is "Mikey Rocks" which makes you know that every penny you spent on this album is worth it. Also, by this point in the album you would have noticed the lyrics of Chuck and Mikey are not your average hip-hop shoot em' up, get money lyrics. Rapping about sneakers, pagers, sega, street-fighter, and how stupid people can be when it comes to trends. Songs like "Black Mags," "A Little Bit Cooler," and "Gold and a Pager" solidify this album as one of the best hip-hop releases of the year. To put simply for everyone, The Cool Kids are sick, fresh, rad, and to be rather honest they true to their name, they are COOL. They are bringing back a style of hip-hop we have all been missing and further more they make it cool to be a fan again. The Bake Sale will be sure to have your stereo rocking all summer.
