Headway - The Start
An Editors lunging melody that spews out reflection then builds up to a Feeder-esque lunge, seeps through the title track and into ‘Safety’, as Nottingham 5 piece, Headway show the progress they have made in song crafting and mood-building. Dave Wright settles easily into some soul-searching, through a slightly wispy vocal lag that builds into quite a heartfelt cry to reflect the emotion climb. The latter element is emboldened by the striking keyboard prowess of Tom Harrison, whose touch often sews the tunes together.
‘Always The Same’, takes on a slower pitch to build upon the binding emotional ties that the guys get across with bleeding hearted passion. A free-spirited ‘Air Traffic’ stomp, beams ‘Sing Our Hearts Out’ out hopefulness and is Headway’s most Radio friendly snippet. The Start EP is a five track foray showing that these East Midlanders have the passion and range to conjure up a dark horse debut album. Watch this space!
