This album is a classic of lo-fi - an eclectic mixture of synth, ethereal string arrangements and acoustic guitar, all held together with a style-over-substance approach. Tracks such as 'Sexy Boy' sounded like the kind of thing played in a classy strip joint and danced to by an oriental beauty with light blue eyes, while 'All I Need' is Groove Armada-esque in it's execution.
Much of the album is music for a summer's day, pure ambient chillout, but Air also have moments of inspiration on tracks such as 'La Femme D'Argent'. Even though this track is long, over 7 minutes, it hits all the right 'Hip' buttons.
The high point on the album is undoubtably the 70's-electro 'Kelly Watch The Stars'. A homage well paid to old disco and vocoder music.
All in all, this is a record with hit and miss moments. Whether the misses add to the 'hip techno' value or take away from the record is up to you.
