The Umbrella Sequence has been a well known local band all around the Minnesota area for a couple of years. While they have done rather well in that scene their new album, Events screams for major attention. The keyboards, fuzz guitars, and crashing drums make for melodies that are very similar to the likes of Super Furry Animals and Muse. Events hits its peak right at the start of the album with the first song "Urban Lull" which is dreamy and upbeat. With a title like that it will surely lull you into a day dream that is controlled by the electro rock and ridiculously enjoyable vocals and lyrics. The Vocalist, Ryan Rupprecht has a voice that goes perfectly with the music they produce. Throughout Events the music goes from slowly hypnotic to upbeat and fast. Songs like "This Time We're Positive" and "The Need To Make Lists" will rock you into a relaxed daze that will leave you with a silly grin as you let the music sweep you up in the synth infused melodies. While songs such as "Et Tu Forte" and "Elephant" will have you up and dancing or moving about your house like a madman. Overall The Umbrella Sequence is ridiculously catchy band that has just not caught on yet. I look for them soon to gain popularity as bands like Sparklehorse and Super Furry Animals did. So jump on the band wagon early and give Events a try because it is simply gorgeous.
