'Owen' is the moniker which Mike Kinsella (better known for his contribution to the bands 'American Football', Owls and Cap 'n' Jazz) gives his solo project in which he concentrates primarily on his singer/songwriting ability. He is good at it, very good. So much of what Kinsella touches turns to gold and 'I Do Perceive' is no exception. Opening with the beautiful 'Who Found who's Hair in who's Bed' Kinsella picks delicate notes over programmed percussion and tells a heartbreaking story of a love lost in a typically hushed indie vocal style. The middle section in this song is exquisite. Truly breathtaking. 'Playing Possum for a Peek' is equally as gentle, indeed all the tracks take this form and none disappoint. All deal with similar themes: love, heartbreak, feelings of loss and longing for loves which have been and gone. Owen's music is the perfect anecdote to a broken heart and is capable of melting even the coldest of hearts. His intricate meanderings on the guitar will maintain the interest of those who try and resist such beautiful music from penetrating their souls and for this Owen should be a huge success.
