Ireland’s Devlins are back again with another album of mellow rock called Consent. While the Devlins don’t really have the most consistent release schedule (1993, 1997, 2002) the do manage to keep quite a fan base. Consent is an album full of emotion and quiet melodies. I have heard their music referred to as “Night Rock and that’s exactly what emanates from Consent. It’s the sort of music that you listen to at the end of a day. Almost like a downtempo rock. They have much in common with a lot of the British bands like Starsailor & Travis but for some reason they are more sought after on this side of the ocean. You will find that Consent basically needs your consent to enjoy. The more listens that you give, the more it will grow on you. It’s quiet and subdued but the vocalist is bloody amazing and the band orchestration works amazingly well. The Devlins require multiple listens to gain full satisfaction.
