Think about the 80's. The sounds, the clothes the whole deal. Now in 2008 a band called the Phenomenauts apparently took it upon themselves to bring a little of that back with their latest effort entitled For All Mankind. When i originally came across this cd i figured they were just a gimmick. Essentially I feel I was right. If you want a sumation of their sound call it 80's New Wave mixed with a splash of punk. The strongest song of the set is called "Navitron." With a style that sounds like a mix of The Hive and 80's new wave at its best. Along with "Navitron" songs like "Man Alone," "Make a Circuit," and "Into a Time Warp" make For All Mankind a fun record filled with enough twangy guitars and blips and bleeps to make you feel like your living in the 80's. But the downside is that it does get old rather fast. The stain power is just not there simply because of the sound of the music. Also the refrences to outer space and other sci-fi things gets played out fast. While the Phenomenauts reminds you why you loved the 80's they make you remember why you were glad they ended. For All Mankind is a good, fun album but is nothing ground breaking.
