This new Vancouver foursome is gaining quite a bit of recognition already. The Dirtmitts, without an album under their belts, have already opened up for the likes of Modest Mouse, 54-40, Elevator, Flashing Lights, and The Matthew Good Band as well as being featured in last years New Music West. The Dirtmitts are a women fronted band, Jen Deon plays bass and sings backup and Natasha Thirsk Plays guitar and is the lead vocalist. The band is rounded out by Jason Lajeunesse, who plays drums, and Dallas Kruszelnicki, who plays guitar. The songs on their debut, while not all that groundbreaking, are solid guitar-driven pop tunes with strong vocals. Any fans of Juliana Hatfield will very likely fall instantly in love with the Dirtmitts. Natasha’s vocals are very strong while still maintaining a feminine edge, not unlike the Breeders. A great addition to Canadian music. Watch for their tour across Canada this summer.
