If you only ever own one dub/reggae album make it this one. A genre defining moment which is as releveant and fresh 30 years on. Social comments that remain applicable to gun-toting, drug-selling deprived youth even today meet some of reggae's best ever songs over some room shaking basslines that his early career mentor Lee Perry would be proud of.
This album features the vocal Talents of Horace Andy (later of Massive Attack), Gregory Isaacs, Jackie Edwards and John Holt.
"You not gonna know yourself til your back is up against the wall"
This album first came to attention in the UK after Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols was attacked in Sloane Square for looking too wierd so he went home, got his records and went to the radio station where his show was broadcast and played "Born For A Purpose/Reason for living" for his attackers
Dr Alimantado is also mentioned on the Clash's "Rudie Cant Fail"
The songs cover the notion that ghetto man needs to earn and that drugs and guns are part of that. He talks of the facts rather than preaches to end it now. An "Gimme My Gun", "I KIlled The Barber" and "Poison Flour" cover this in particular.
Truly a powerful album on many levels. Jah love it!
