You saw this collaboration coming for a long time. Jon Spencer, being a big fan of Calvin Johnsons (Dub Narcotic Sound System, Halo Benders, Beat Happening) had used Calvins help before on previous releases. This album is everything you would expect from a Jon Spencer Blues Explosion album. Rough and rowdy but as always, Jon don't play no blues. The main difference between this and other JSBX albums is the addition of Calvins melodica and unique vocals. It adds a lot to the foundation of Jon's rhythm section and messy guitar that they are know for. Any fans of the afformentioned groups will enjoy Sideways Soul.
