RecommendRemember Johnny Cash's American Recordings with Rick Rubin? Well, Home Before Dark and 12 Songs are the start of the same dealio for Mr. Neil Diamond. Rick Rubin has taken him under his wing and is turning out some really good singer/songwriter material. Rarely does Neil rock out on this album but there are many times where he gets his fans up and dancing. Sure, the 57 year old doesn't get going like "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show" but you know, there are some quality songs here. One of my favorites is the gentle "Pretty Amazing Grace". If you have liked Neil in the past (you know who you are) you at least owe him the courtesy of checking out Home Before Dark. If you are a fan of singer/songwriter material then also check into this resurrection of a Diamond. He's still got the songwriting chops. He wrote every song on here.
