Got No Shadow is the fourth full-length album from Mary Lou Lord, and a possible candidate as evidence of the Fourth Album Phenomenon. The album is a fusion of rock, pop, and folk styles held together by Lord's acoustic guitar.

The album is very personal. It tells stories that are no doubt drawn from real life, some of which are confirmed to be about real people -- Some Jingle Jangle Morning is about Kurt Cobain -- and some of which are not. The feel of being told stories about someone's personal life adds to the folksy charm of the album, and really added to my enjoyment of the music.

In the negative, this album is just a little bland. That's not to say that the music is poorly performed, or that the three styles conflict with each other:they do not. However, I listen to the album and I find myself underwhelmed. It simply doesn't make me think "Wow, this is something different!", and that has a negative effect on my love for the album.

In summation, I'm aware that my personal tastes are probably getting in the way of this album. If girl-folk is your thing...wait, scratch that, girl-folk is one of my things, so that can't be it. If moderately pop-ish girl-folks is your thing, you should definitely check out this album.
