The release of Fear and Love came at the most opportune time, when the late spring air melts the last of any cold, winter remnants. Jonathan Jones, former member of the now defunct Waking Ashland, leads the newly created quartet We Shot the Moon with a debut album that explores the flutters of our butterflies. Fear and Love is simply piano-rock with some feel-good moments and catchy hooks. The most experimental instrument in the entire album would be Jones piano, as it dances around with the drums and packs a punch into many of the songs choruses. My only complaint about Fear and Love would be its lack of originality; some of the tracks seem to blend with one another in terms of composition and pace. Nevertheless, there are some evident standout tracks, such as the light-heartedd "Waters Edge" and the first single "Sway Your Head". Furthermore, the song "In the Blue" boasts a very gentle opening, which literally sounds like falling stars with the help of xylophones. As a debut album, Fear and Love holds its ground as a playable record, especially during the transition from spring to a warmer summer.
